Eye Mind Wander (EYEMW) Dataset Competition
The Affect, Cognition, and Computation (ACC) Lab at the University of Minnesota and the Penn Center for Learning Analytics at the University of Pennsylvania are pleased to announce the winner of the Eye, Mind, Wander Data Competition. The competition was funded by the Tools Competition and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Entrants were challenged to leverage the Eye Mind Wander dataset to produce novel scientific insights into attention, cognition, engagement, or other scientific areas. The contribution could be geared toward learning science, cognitive science, and/or learning analytics.
Congratulations to Llewy Smith for their submission “Learning From the Learner: Can Personal Gaze Baselines Improve Mind Wandering Detection?”. The paper investigated whether personal gaze baselines can improve webcam-based mind-wandering detection. The winner will receive US$5000.
We thank everyone that made a submission to the competition. We plan on adding additional studies to the database to further research on the relationship between eye movements and mind wandering.
